Teradek Launches Cellular Bonding Solution for Mobile Content Transmission and Live Reporting

Teradek Announces Ultra-Compact Cellular Bonding Solution

Teradek launches Bond™, the ultra-compact cellular bonding solution with seamless Cube™ integration

Teradek, the world leader in compact HD H.264 video encoders and decoders, announced today the launch of a cellular bonding solution for mobile content transmission and live reporting from the field. Bond™, which will be showcased at this week’s Streaming Media West (SMW) and Worship Facilities Expo (WFX), enables freelance and professional broadcasters to transmit live content over up to five 3G or 4G cellular modems from a device that is far smaller and more affordable than any existing cellular bonding solutions.

Bond™ is a camera-top cellular bonding solution that fits in the palm of your hand. The device supports up to five 3G or 4G modems simultaneously from multiple carriers worldwide and is designed to seamlessly integrate with Teradek’s award-winning Cube™ video encoder. This combination incorporates cutting edge technologies such as low power hardware H.264 HD video compression, advanced streaming options like RTMP and MPEG-TS, and Teradek’s Adaptive Internet Streaming™ (AI Streaming™) technology, which dynamically adjusts bit rate and buffering in real time to handle volatile network conditions. To manage Bond’s multiple data streams Teradek has developed Sputnik™, a free proprietary de-bonding software solution that runs on any Linux server or is hosted in the cloud to reassemble data into a single RTMP or MPEG-TS stream. This allows users to transmit video to any broadcast decoder, including Teradek’s SDI Cube decoder, or straight to the web via many popular CDNs.

“We designed Bond™ to overcome the bulky hardware and high cost commitments that are common with existing bonding solutions,” said Nicol Verheem, CEO of Teradek. “Bond’s small size, ease of use, and affordability makes it an ideal solution for ENG backhaul, sports broadcasts, and live events coverage. Bond™ allows enterprise content providers to expand the number of field reporters their satellite truck fleet can support and enables independent content producers to enter this market as well. We are very excited to liberate live video production this way.”

Bond™ will be on display in Teradek’s booth 14 & 15 at Streaming Media West and booth 342 for Worship Facilities Expo. Bond™ is available now for evaluation and will ship in quantity December 2011 for $2490 each. Sputnik™ is a free download available from Teradek.

PHXX Develops Over-the-Top Video Application for Etisalat’s eLife OnWeb Service

PHXX Unveils Array of Over-the-Top Video (OTT) Apps for Etisalat at IPTV World MEA

Apps for tablets, smartphones and set-top boxes support Etisalat’s eLife OnWeb

From the iPad, to the Android Smartphone, to LG’s Smart TV there is a good chance that PHXX has developed an Over-the-Top Video application for leading hardware platforms used to provide video and entertainment services anywhere. PHXX’s new apps were built to support the reach of Etisalat’s eLife OnWeb service.

Etisalat’s eLife OnWeb service today has over 24 unique content partners offering 1000’s of hours of content 100% on-demand. Users can access the eLife OnWeb service today through the eLife OnWeb application that is already accessible via the ‘Home’ menu found on any of the 37” – 55” LG 3D/Smart TVs that are sold in the UAE today. Over the coming months our customers will gain access to eLife OnWeb through an array of additional devices allowing users anywhere, anytime, and anyway access to the eLife OnWeb service.

PHXX – a platform development company with expertise in over-the-top video, new media and gaming – displayed examples of more than a dozen applications as part of its Reach OTT Services at the IPTV World MEA conference. PHXX, based in Central Florida, may not be a household name – but the company has worked for more than five years to provide the giants in the industry with well designed, easy-to-use applications to run over-the-top video platforms.

“Our name is not important,” states PHXX President & CEO Shane Robinett. “What is critical is the technical capabilities of our PHXX Reach OTT platform and the quality of the partnerships that we have been able to build with top-tier hardware manufacturers.”

PHXX has application development deals for several widely known consumer devices in the digital entertainment industry. The apps are designed to run on Etisalat’s eLife OnWeb service. In addition, PHXX has partnerships that span the globe and is looking to add more.

On display at the conference were the following applications:

LG Connected Devices

  • LG Smart TV
  • LG Smart Upgrader
  • LG Smart Blu-ray Player

Tablets

  • Apple iPad 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Tablet 8.9
  • Huawei MediaPad

Smart Phones

  • LG Optimus Black
  • LG Optimus 3D

Set Top Boxes

  • HUMAX IR2020 Satellite Hybrid
  • HUMAX iCORD HD Satellite Hybrid
  • KAON SmartCube
  • AirTies 7120/7124

The company was found in the Etisalat Entertainment Zone at this year’s IPTV MEA at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.

PHXX’s applications currently help provide eLife OnWeb for the Etisalat UAE. In addition, PHXX also provides New Media services to regional broadcasters such as Dubai Media and several others that are expected to debut in early 2012. It recently received investment support from Alfalak, a Saudi-based technology integrator.

PHXX expects to expand its Reach OTT platform to Europe and Asia in the coming year. The strength of its growing development team gives the company competitive advantages over other smaller developments efforts.

“We are a development centric company,” Robinett notes. “The capability of our platform and the speed that we can create new products for our partners is what is fueling our growth.”

ViaSat Announces ViaSat-1, the Hhighest Capacity Satellite in the World, is Now Positioned in Geosynchronous Orbit

ViaSat-1 Satellite Reaches Geosynchronous Orbit

Post-launch operations on schedule with satellite ready to begin in-orbit testing

ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT – News) has announced that ViaSat-1, the highest capacity satellite in the world, is now positioned in geosynchronous orbit where it will begin in-orbit testing. Since launching on October 19, ViaSat-1 has successfully completed all scheduled maneuvers:

  • Deployment of solar arrays
  • Six apogee motor firings, lifting the spacecraft from transfer orbit to geosynchronous orbit
  • Deployment of main reflectors and sub-reflectors
  • Deployment of stationary plasma thrusters for satellite positioning

On Wednesday the satellite’s payload was switched on, enabling the first high-capacity satellite over North America to begin a series of in-orbit tests. Those tests will be followed by a move to its operational orbital location. The 140 Gbps capacity satellite is scheduled to enter service in late December. At that time the initial ViaSat-1 service will launch and then services will sequentially expand across the United States over the following months.

ViaSat -1 is the second multi-spotbeam satellite to use ViaSat’s transformational high-capacity satellite system architecture, following the launch of services on Eutelsat KA-SAT in Europe earlier this year. The satellite was built for ViaSat by Space Systems/Loral, and launched by International Launch Services.

ViaSat-1 is designed to transform the economics and quality of service that satellite broadband can provide. The technology is expected to elevate satellite into a much more competitive position in the broadband service marketplace, with the capacity to serve the accelerating growth in bandwidth demand for multimedia Internet access over the next decade. The high-capacity Ka-band spot beam satellite includes coverage over North America and Hawaii, enabling a variety of new, high-speed broadband services for WildBlue in the U.S., Xplornet in Canada, and JetBlue Airways on its domestic U.S. fleet.

About ViaSat

ViaSat delivers fast, secure communications, Internet, and remote network access to fixed sites or on-the-move. The company provides networking products and managed network services for enterprise IP applications; is a key supplier of network-centric military communications and encryption technologies and products to the U.S. and allied governments; is the primary technology partner for gateway and customer-premises equipment for consumer and mobile satellite broadband services; and offers high-speed Ka-band satellite broadband services under the WildBlue brand.
