Westell Enhances Gateway Product Lines with 802.11n Wireless Networking

High-performance wireless interface enables Westell’s customers to provide a range of new and emerging services

AURORA, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL – News), a leading provider of broadband products, outside plant telecommunications equipment, and conferencing services, today announced that it has begun offering integrated 802.11n wireless networking in its broadband products. Specifically, it is announcing the availability of the VersaLink™ 7550 ADSL 11n gateway and the UltraLine™ Series3 9150 11n high-performance home router. Integration of the most advanced wireless home networking standard will provide end consumers with additional performance and security for their in-home wireless network. For Westell’s service provider customers, the new wireless capability provides the additional throughput needed to provide content-rich services across the wireless network. The use of 802.11n also reduces “dead spots” and extends network reach, increasing the reliability of the service offering and providing a better customer experience overall.

Both product lines come equipped with a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) system design for optimal performance. Each product can support wireless rates of up to 130Mbps, taking advantage of enhancements included in the 802.11n standard, such as packet aggregation and spatial multiplexing. To ensure consumer privacy and to protect any licensed content distributed wirelessly, devices connected to the Westell products are designed to utilize government-grade wireless security including AES encryption. Westell’s 802.11n implementation is fully compatible with existing devices utilizing 802.11g technology. The products have been tested against a broad range of 802.11n and 802.11g client devices to ensure the broadest possible compatibility with the many millions of wireless equipped client devices in use today and in the future.

“As broadband service speeds continue to increase and the number and variety of wireless-enabled devices proliferate, it is important to facilitate a commensurate amount of wireless throughput. Our 802.11n products provide more wireless speed, combined with better coverage and security, which together provide the best possible experience to our service provider customers and ultimately to their end users,” said Scott Voegele, Executive Director of Product Marketing for Westell’s Customer Networking Solutions business. “Westell’s wireless gateway devices have a well-earned reputation for best-in-class performance, quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness, and we are pleased to introduce our 802.11n gateway products to market.”

Westell has already executed a contract with one major customer to migrate a portion of that customer’s gateway shipments to 802.11n-equipped Westell gateways, and it has seen significant interest from other customers. Commercial shipments of Westell’s 802.11n-equipped products are expected to commence in volume in 2010.

Initiative Teams Axway with Thales/nCipher, Entrust and Quantum Secure to Support Global Identity Security Projects in Government and Enterprise

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fifth graph, second sentence should read: xxx Server-based Certificate Validation Protocol (SCVP) (sted: xxx Simple Certificate Validation Protocol).

The corrected release reads:

AXWAY LEADS GLOBAL IDENTITY SECURITY INITIATIVE TO MINIMIZE FRAUD, DATA LOSS AND ID THEFT

Initiative Teams Axway with Thales/nCipher, Entrust and Quantum Secure to Support Global Identity Security Projects in Government and Enterprise

Axway, the Business Interaction Networks company, has announced the creation of a strategic global initiative to address identity security and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) requirements of governments and enterprises. This initiative has been created in response to the building momentum for identity management initiatives throughout the world.

Through this initiative, Axway will partner with complementary solutions providers including Thales/nCipher, Entrust and Quantum Secure to address increasing global data security and access control requirements. The companies will deeper integrate and deliver components that include hardware security modules (HSMs), certificate authority, authentication, validation, device and credential management, physical and logical access integration and security consulting.

Identity management’s rapid growth is driven by the need to manage complex identity validation and security needs in sectors like defense, healthcare, finance and human services. Presently, technologies the initiative supports – like ID cards with embedded chips, mobile devices and biometrics – are used increasingly to minimize fraud, identity theft and data loss.

The non-exclusive initiative will be promoted to customers, common technology alliances, leading system integrators and security resellers globally. Over time, other like-minded solution vendors will join this ecosystem to drive integrated solutions and best practices for security initiatives within multiple delivery mechanisms, such as cloud computing. Initiative members will take these integration efforts, coupled with best practices from the joint deployments across all sectors, to provide new delivery options.

Axway will contribute both its proven leadership in Business Interaction Networks and policy-based IT governance along with its Validation Authority (VA) suite technology. Axway’s VA technology is uniquely positioned to provide validation and authorization solutions based on both Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) and Server-based Certificate Validation Protocol (SCVP).

“We often create this type of initiative with other vendors to deliver complete solutions for specific projects, so formalizing this is the next logical step,” says Alan Taylor, director for alliances, Axway. “This global security initiative marks an important step forward in addressing government challenges worldwide for security, credential and identity management. This initiative protects citizens and enterprises’ critical data across all sectors, and provides a powerful business continuity and authorization framework.”

These integrated solutions will ensure compliance with government mandates for physical and logical access, e-authentication and personal identity validation credentials.
