TeleNav Announces TeleNav Auto 2.0, New Aautomotive Navigation Platform

New Version of the TeleNav Auto Platform Connects Navigation and Search to the Phone, the Cloud and the Car

Global Platform Combines Mobile and Automotive Navigation Technologies to Offer a New Connected Experience in the Vehicle

TeleNav, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNAV – News), one of the largest global wireless location-based services providers, today announced a new version of its automotive navigation platform. TeleNav Auto 2.0 continues to push the boundaries of vehicle connectivity, offering a new navigation platform with mobile phone, cloud and deep vehicle integration. TeleNav Auto helps drivers search, find and drive to places more reliably, easily and safely.

Seamless Phone Integration
Embedded navigation systems powered by TeleNav Auto 2.0 combine phone and vehicle technology to offer a unique, connected experience. Drivers can leverage TeleNav’s mobile phone and automotive software for a complete experience inside and outside the car, sending destination information from their phone directly to the car. In addition, TeleNav Auto gives drivers easy, hands-free access to information on their mobile phones, such as calendars and contacts for turn-by-turn navigation to their appointments or contact’s location.

Cloud Data Services
Most in-vehicle navigation systems are only able to receive information that is broadcasted over terrestrial radio or satellite systems. With TeleNav Auto 2.0, navigation systems can now directly interact with Internet-based information for the latest places, search algorithms, mapping data, real-time traffic, and other dynamic content such as weather and gas prices. Additionally, it provides access to HTML5 applications, which allows manufacturers to create and deliver new services without having to physically update the vehicle’s software.

Driver Services
TeleNav Auto 2.0 provides critical road information to the powertrain and other vehicle electronic systems to make intelligent safety and fuel efficiency decisions based on what drivers will most likely encounter. This information, known as an electronic horizon (EH), includes road attributes such as curvature, grade, bank, speed-limit, exit ramps, road type and stop signs. In addition, EH incorporates connected device data to better understand route probability based on driving behavior. The integration of EH, combined with dead reckoning and electric vehicle route capabilities, makes TeleNav an in-vehicle connectivity leader.

Other features include:

  • Multiple Operating Systems: Configured to support Android™, Linux, Meego, QNX™ and Windows Embedded™ automotive OSes
  • 3D Map Engine Enhancements: Features include Junction View, satellite imagery, Picture-in-Picture, digital terrain, 3D city models and Sign as Real (realistic road signs)
  • Configurable Map Modes: On-Board, off-board and hybrid map options for navigation information, even with limited wireless coverage
  • Off-board Places Search: Mobile phone and cloud integration brings up-to-date content into the vehicle
  • Places Sharing: An exact location or favorite Place can be sent to any contact in a driver’s phone
  • Send to Car: A destination or address can be sent from a computer to the car
  • Favorites and Contact Sync: Integrates contacts and destination favorites from the driver’s phone for instant access
  • Calendar Integration: Integrates calendar information stored on the driver’s mobile phone for easy destination entry
  • Dead Reckoning: Improved GPS data and routing algorithm for a more precise location
  • Vehicle Tuned Eco-Routing: Routes are tuned to the vehicle’s specific fuel consumption

“The lines between off-board and on-board navigation and search continue to merge, allowing for a more connected, personalized experience in the car,” said Sal Dhanani, vice president of products at TeleNav. “TeleNav Auto 2.0 integrates key aspects of the phone, the cloud and the car to take connected navigation to a new level for drivers around the world.”

A Global Leader
Founded in 1999, TeleNav has global experience providing navigation to the auto and mobile industries, with a presence in Asia, Europe, North America and South America. TeleNav is currently partnered with Ford and Delphi to provide connected services in vehicles worldwide.

TeleNav Auto 2.0 brings a single global navigation and search solution to the automotive industry. It is available to automakers and Tier1s in more than eight regions, supporting 16 languages and dialects. In addition, TeleNav Auto 2.0 includes search and localized maps in more than 60 countries, which can be accessed through voice commands or a full-color LCD touch-screen.

Representatives from TeleNav will be available to demonstrate this new technology at Telematics Munich 2011 on November 9 and 10, 2011 from 8:00am – 6:00pm CET at The Hilton Munich Park Hotel in Munich, Germany.
