Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD – News), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced the Comcerto® 300xv family of voice over IP (VoIP) processing devices that deliver a complete hardware and software solution for integrated VoIP media, signaling and control processing in low-to-medium density next-generation network (NGN), IP multimedia system (IMS) and IP-private branch exchange (IP-PBX) equipment.

Mindspeed®’s Comcerto 300xv system-on-chip (SoC) leverages the company’s award-winning multi-core Comcerto 300 architecture and reduces bill of material (BOM) costs for such price-sensitive platforms as passive optical networking (PON) multi-dwelling unit (MDU) equipment and IP-PBX systems. Its flexible architecture makes it easy for customers to differentiate their products, and includes support for master/slave modes and multiple booting methods. The turnkey solution’s complete, production-quality OpenWrt-based Linux design kit provides access to hundreds of applications and can be used to create a functionally complete routing platform. The device is also supported by a complete reference design package, including an open-source session initiation protocol (SIP) signaling stack and low-level board support packages (BSP). Platforms using the Comcerto 300xv SoC retain full software feature and application programming interface (API) compatibility with prior Comcerto 300 designs. The software also supports wideband voice codecs for high-definition VoIP applications.

It provides a complete, low-cost, high-value VoIP media and control processing solution between narrowband time-division multiplexing (TDM) and Ethernet, allowing inexpensive POTS termination systems to be built on an Ethernet / LAN-based architecture.”

According to market research firm Infonetics, by 2014, worldwide PON revenue is expected to increase to $4.9 billion, representing a 2009-2014 compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent. By 2014, Infonetics expects total PON ports to increase to just over 31 million, representing a 5-year CAGR of 28 percent.

Product Details

The Comcerto 300xv device’s two ARM® processors are coupled through shared memory to create a complete media stream processing (MSP) subsystem. One processor is paired to powerful digital signal processing (DSP) resources and integrated memory to optimize real-time, low-latency voice processing, while the other is dedicated to control and signaling processing (CSP) functions. The inclusion of two independently configurable 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces enables the Comcerto 300xv device to support a rich set of configuration options, and allows direct control and management of Ethernet switches or PON media access control (MAC) functions.

Comcerto 300xv devices are available in six performance levels to support from four to more than 128 G.711/20ms channels with echo cancellation, tone detection and other POTS-focused features.

Pricing and Availability

The Comcerto 300xv is sampling now and scheduled for volume production in the second half of 2010. It is packaged in a 484-ball, 19x19mm low-profile ball grid array (LBGA). Both RoHS and non-RoHS versions are available. Pricing for the devices and production software starts at less than $18 in OEM volumes of 10,000 for the lowest performance member of the family, the M82321.

NG9-1-1 Leaders to Combine Expertise and Innovative New Technologies to Further Advance Public Safety Services

The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola (NYSE:MOT – News), today announced an alliance with Intrado, Inc., the leading provider of 9-1-1 technology solutions, to deliver next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) text messaging enabled products and services.

As agencies move toward wider adoption of NG9-1-1 capabilities, a new approach is needed to fully realize the unprecedented access to non-verbal communication, such as citizen text messaging. Working closely with mutual public safety customers, Motorola and Intrado are combining their expertise with innovative new technologies to further advance public safety services and emergency response. The two companies will initially focus on a citizen text messaging trial to enable access for individuals who may have speech or hearing disabilities. The result of this trial will help inform how citizen text messages are best integrated as public safety agencies move toward NG9-1-1 services. In June 2009 Intrado launched the first text messaging solution to successfully deliver text messages directly to 9-1-1 and has continued to enhance that solution in preparation for broader deployment across the public safety community.

For the initial text trial, the interoperability and integration of Motorola’s IP based PremierOne™ CAD and Intrado’s A9-1-1™ equipment and technology will be achieved using the ATIS (Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions) Emergency Services Messaging Interface (ESMI) standard. Motorola and Intrado support the need for NG9-1-1 standards. As future NG9-1-1 standards evolve and are approved by industry recognized standards organizations, trial solutions supporting these standards will be considered.

Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

“We understand that radio communication at a fireground scene is often more challenging and demanding than regular dispatched communication,” said Michael Jalbert, president and chief executive officer of EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. “Firefighters are faced with a dynamic communication environment especially while operating in building structures. A simple act, such as entering a stairwell or walking down a hallway, may cause the firefighter to lose his radio communication. Even worse, a firefighter may lose communication and not even know it.”

The FIRESafe features will make a firefighter’s radio smarter. FIRESafe will monitor the communication link using a Project 25 digital “heartbeat” generated by the FIRESafe feature in the command radio. The heartbeat provides signal strength information that FIRESafe uses to determine the quality of the communications link, and the firefighter will be alerted with audio tones when he nears the communication range limit or is out of communication range altogether.

The 51FIRE ES portable radio launched by the Company earlier this year, combined with the FIRESafe features, will provide a hardware and software solution for safe and reliable communications for firefighters and the citizens they served,” Jalbert added.
