SAN JOSE, Calif., April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — NETGEAR®, Inc. (NTGR) (www.netgear.com), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, is expanding its market-leading family of next-generation 802.11ac wireless products (www.netgear.com/fastestwifi) with the R6250 Smart WiFi Router. The industry’s newest router to support the upcoming 802.11ac wireless standard, the R6250 is designed for customers who want the best possible 802.11ac WiFi performance but don’t feel the need to have the fastest 802.11n WiFi performance in the 2.4 Ghz band. The router includes Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port so that you can make the most of the outstanding performance it delivers with 802.11ac WiFi. The NETGEAR R6250 is ideal for HD streaming to multiple devices, including the latest smartphones with 802.11ac, such as the Samsung Galaxy S®4 and the HTC One®.

With a powerful dual-core 800 MHz engine to enable combined WiFi connections at Gigabit speeds up to 1600 Mbps (300 Mbps @ 2.4 Ghz 802.11n + 1300 Mbps @ 5 Ghz 802.11ac), the R6250 Smart WiFi Router offers optimal wireless coverage for large homes. It also has a new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, capable of transferring data from your hard drive up to 10 times faster than a USB 2.0 interface. These features make the R6250 ideal for enabling your increasingly connected digital lifestyle. The R6250 is particularly useful as the network hub for families with eight or more WiFi devices, and works especially well with dual-band WiFi devices such as the Apple iPad® and iPhone® 5.

“At NETGEAR, we recognize that your home network today has become increasingly complex and must support multiple diverse Internet-enabled devices – smartphones, tablets, computers, game consoles and more — with an ever-expanding library of digital content,” said Sandeep Harpalani, NETGEAR Director of Product Marketing for Core Networking.

He added, “802.11ac is the wireless standard you need for your network to cope with the growing demands you’re placing on it for smoother HD video streaming and low-latency online gaming. The R6250, our newest addition to the 802.11ac WiFi router lineup, will help your network achieve the high performance you expect to support your increasingly digital lifestyle and premium WiFi devices — now, and for years to come.”

The upcoming 802.11ac wireless standard (www.netgear.com/80211ac) is the world’s fastest WiFi, providing Gigabit WiFi speeds so you can download web content faster and synchronize large video or music files more quickly. The increased speed of 802.11ac technology is ideal for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets by providing three times the performance for a similar amount of battery consumption of devices using the current 802.11n WiFi standard. As a result, many companies, such as Samsung and HTC, are now releasing smartphones with 802.11ac WiFi, with additional 802.11ac-enabled smartphones, tablets and TVs from other leading manufacturers anticipated to debut in the coming year.

Motorola Mobility to Demonstrate First Ever Real-Time HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) Encoding and Decoding at the 2013 NAB Show

Motorola Mobility to Showcase Next-Gen Video Compression Technology with its Real-Time HEVC Encoding Demo

Motorola will demonstrate real-time HEVC encoding and decoding of High Definition TV at the 2013 NAB Show

HORSHAM, Pa., April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — For decades, Motorola Mobility has been delivering revolutionary industry standards and life-changing technologies by driving the evolution of TV and now multi-screen services through the cloud, network and home. At the 2013 NAB Show, Motorola will continue its history of innovation with its first ever real-time HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) encoding and decoding demonstration at its exhibit space, booth # SU2017.

“Now that we’ve seen the industry-wide approval of HEVC as a standard, we’re rapidly moving from creation to implementation,” said Joe Cozzolino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Network Infrastructure Solutions, Motorola Mobility. “It took almost four years from the time MPEG-4 was made an industry-wide standard before the necessary refinements in the MPEG-4 tool kit took place and the standard reached its fullest potential. We’re only two months into the approval of HEVC, and we’ve already reached an unprecedented level of progress.”

Motorola continues to build on its legacy of HEVC leadership this year after bringing the technology to the global market and showcasing some of the industry’s first ever HEVC demonstrations at IBC 2012 and The Cable Show 2012. At this year’s NAB show in Las Vegas, Motorola moves beyond basic technology demonstrations and will exhibit a practical implementation of HEVC with its first HEVC encoding and decoding in real-time. One demo will feature a real-time HEVC encoder delivering streaming content to a Google Nexus 10 tablet for real-time decoding and playback. A second demo will showcase real-time HEVC HTTP live streaming to an Apple iPad (4th generation). A third demo will show an IP set-top box decoding HEVC. Motorola’s demonstrations will highlight how the compression efficiency of HEVC enables high-quality video delivery over bandwidth constrained networks to multiple platforms.

HEVC video compression technology has the ability to reduce bandwidth by up to 50 percent in comparison to MPEG-4 AVC – while still delivering same high-quality viewing experience. In its initial phase, HEVC might have the highest impact on reducing wireless network congestion that exists due to consumers wanting to watch traditional broadcast and new over-the-top (OTT) services on their tablets and smartphone devices. By utilizing HEVC, 3G and 4G-enabled operators will be able to provide higher quality viewing experiences on almost any screen while saving up to half the capacity current encoding technologies require.

Motorola will immediately support video service providers and programmers in testing and launching HEVC-based services to take advantage of the significant bandwidth savings offered by this new compression technology.

Additionally, HEVC can be a significant factor in dramatically reducing storage costs for in-home and networked DVRs. As Motorola’s Fourth Annual Media Engagement Barometer reveals, consumers are watching an enormous amount of recorded content with over one-third of our weekly TV viewing coming from the DVR. Motorola Mobility’s engineers are using HEVC to test and develop comprehensive standards-based wireless and multi-screen solutions for a diverse base of service providers worldwide.

This next-generation video compression technology was jointly developed by ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). Motorola’s HEVC demonstration builds on its heritage of network innovations and the importance of video compression in driving the evolution of TV. Motorola is part of the committee that developed the HEVC standard, and has been an active contributing member of MPEG2 (1993) and MPEG4 (2003) standards.

Comwave Launches New Version of ePhone for iOS Devices

Comwave announces a new ePhone App for iOS Devices

TORONTO, April 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Today Comwave launched a new version of ePhone for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad) which is part of a string of Comwave Apps intended to take a bite of Skype’s market share. ePhone is different though, because the App includes a built-in telephone number that users can choose, allowing them to receive incoming calls from any telephone around the world. “Having a Toronto or New York phone number on your Smartphone is a powerful tool, especially when you travel and want to get around those costly roaming fees,” said Yuval Barzakay, President. ePhone also comes with tremendous cost savings for users because the App is absolutely FREE! ePhone uses your 3G, 4G or WIFI connection so there is no need to worry about expensive roaming fees while traveling. ePhone already includes free calling to the USA and Canada but you can add international minutes to your account in $5, $10 or $30 increments to call the world at the lowest rates, always guaranteed lower than Skype. You can use ePhone anywhere in the world, so even if you are in Europe, you can use ePhone to call landlines in North America absolutely free.

ePhone bridges the gap between Smartphone users, computers, and landline phone users by allowing all of them to communicate for free regardless of whether they have ePhone or not. “While other Apps seem to put up walled gardens confining you to the App, ePhone allows you to communicate for free to non-ePhone users as well. Now, someone can be on their land line in New York calling an ePhone user across the globe for free,” added Mr. Barzakay.

How does it work?
ePhone uses VoIP (Voice Over IP) which allows you to choose your own telephone number. So let’s say you choose a Toronto ePhone number and you happen to be travelling to Florida, first you would be able to call any phone number back home for free, and you would be able to receive calls from back home for free as well. That’s because your friends and colleagues back home could call Toronto ePhone number which is local to them. The idea is to choose an ePhone number that is local to your home or office, this way you can travel anywhere and receive free calls.

ePhone is available for iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad), Android, Mac, PC and Blackberry Playbook.

About Comwave
Comwave is Canada’s largest independent communications company and recipients of the 2012 and 2013 Consumer’s Choice Award.
