Alteva Announces Edgewater Networks Solution for Dispelling Hosted PBX Perceptions

Alteva Debunks Hosted PBX Myths with Edgewater Networks Solution

Alteva, North America’s largest provider of enterprise hosted VoIP, today announced that the Edgewater Networks solution is the key to dispelling the hosted PBX perceptions that are still prevalent in the VoIP market.

“Legacy PBX vendors sell on the fear of the unknown about hosted and SIP based VoIP services for large enterprise customers. Words like reliability and quality are often used as an example of what is not being delivered by hosted or SIP based VoIP services,” said William Bumbernick, CEO of Alteva. “Alteva has built its reputation by delivering quality and reliability in every integration, regardless of the size of the corporation.”

Alteva’s hosted VoIP solution includes the EdgeMarc and EdgeView platforms that, when combined, ensure that if there is a fiber cut or WAN outage, the phones remain operational either over the PSTN, physically diverse data connection or re-routed locally. With the EdgeMarc, Alteva provides its customers with a truly diverse network redundant path by offering WAN Link Redundancy (WLR). This allows the customer to set up two WAN links through two different service providers and in the case where the primary WAN goes down, the EdgeMarc will automatically failover to the backup data connection such as Cable, DSL or Fast Ethernet Connection.

Survivability and WLR are fundamental differentiators for large enterprise customers because enduring a service outage means their business is down and revenue is subsequently lost. In the example of the law firm of Kimmel and Silverman, P.C. (The Lemon Law Firm), even a short outage means a loss of inbound and outbound business. “We used to average two hours of down time per outage, but with Alteva’s solution and the WAN Link Redundancy feature, our service is now safe and secure,” said Jeff Ehrmann, Director of IT at Kimmel and Silverman. “Recently, our local T1 carrier had a fiber cut that brought down our T1’s at our headquarters. The EdgeMarc automatically failed over to our back up FIOS line, making the entire process seamless to the business, saving us thousands of dollars of potential lost revenue.”

The Edgewater solution consists of the EdgeMarc Network Services Gateways and EdgeView VoIP Support System products. The EdgeMarcs are being used at Alteva’s customer premises as the demarcation point to ensure Quality of Service (QoS), survivability and WLR. The EdgeView VoIP Support system is being used for configuration, troubleshooting and VoIP performance reporting. “The Edgewater Networks solution delivers what we need for our large enterprise customers. We sell services ranging from 25 to 6,000 seats that depend on the EdgeMarc’s reliability, QoS, and survivability features to guarantee quality of the service to our customer,” said Bumbernick. “We believe the combination of the EdgeMarc gateways and EdgeView platform is a very powerful and essential element in delivering high quality and reliable service to our customers.”

The EdgeMarc Network Services Gateway’s ability to scale to the large enterprise allows Alteva to offer their hosted solution regardless of the customer size. The Alteva network ensures a high quality, reliable solution, utilizing the EdgeView VoIP support tool, to provide key call stats including Mean Opinion Score (MOS) and jitter measurements. Alteva uses this tool to provide proactive management for their customers, often calling the customer about a call quality issue before the customer even knows that one exists.

“Alteva continues to be a great partner because they have built their services so that businesses large and small can innovate their customer offerings and improve their operations and competitive edge with every deployment,” said David G. Norman, CEO of Edgewater Networks, Inc. “The combination of Edgewater Network’s EdgeMarc and EdgeView allows Alteva to dominate the Hosted VoIP enterprise segment of the market and offer a secure and reliable service.”

The EdgeMarc is a part of a complete solution from Edgewater Networks that also includes EdgeConnect managed Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches, the EdgeView VoIP Support System and EdgeView Reports server. EdgeView is a troubleshooting and setup tool that allows service providers to proactively manage and support their communications services. EdgeView Reports is an advanced yet easy-to-use reporting tool that provides valuable VoIP performance information to network planners, operators, product managers, executive management teams and end-users.

Telco Systems Announces EdgeGate 242W Indoor Wireless-Wnabled Active Ethernet Residential Gateway and EdgeGate 483 Outdoor CPE Gateway

Telco Systems Expands FTTH Solution to Meet Demand for Cost-Effective Delivery of Broadband Services

Telco Systems, a BATM Company (LSE: BVC – News) has announced the expansion of their Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) offerings with the introduction of the EdgeGate 242W, an indoor wireless-enabled active Ethernet residential gateway, and an enhanced EdgeGate 483 outdoor CPE gateway with dual 1Gigabit uplinks.

The EdgeGate 242W offers service providers the ability to deliver full triple play services while solving the home owners’ problem of in-home wiring by using wireless home networking. As a single box solution, the EdgeGate 242W also offers enhanced TV options with support for both IPTV and RF video, advanced routing capabilities and enhanced telephony features like three-way calling, call forward and hold, distinctive ring, and T.38 support for fax over IP.

A built-in bridge and router enable customers to connect their home network either through one of four 10/100Base-T LAN ports or the wireless 802.11b/g access point. Analog phone sets can be connected to one of two FXS POTS ports to provide VoIP using SIP signaling protocol. The EdgeGate 242W supports up to 100Mbps downstream and 100Mbps upstream over bi-directional fixed fiber ports.

Designed for indoor installations, the product’s fiber optics cable management module can be installed prior to activation of the service, and the active components can be connected when the service is signed. Service activation is completed easily by the end user with no need to send a technician to the customer’s house.

The EdgeGate 483D is an enhancement to the existing outdoor EdgeGate 483 family which adds dual 1Gigabit fiber uplinks to support ring and chain topologies of multiple units. The EdgeGate 483D offers eight Ethernet ports to support both data and video services for computers and TVs, and two analog voice ports which can connect to two separate telephone lines which are converted to VoIP. This EdgeGate has an unique design that future-proofs the user’s access connection by supporting either 100Mbps or 1Gbps dual uplinks in the same product, thus allowing the service provider to start deployment with 100M network and upgrade to 1Gigabit without replacing the CPE. The outdoor design provides separate technician access areas from subscriber access areas as well as enhanced cable management.

As Point-to-Point (P2P) Active Ethernet CPE gateways, both products enable providers to offer dedicated bandwidth based on the subscriber’s individual requirements and offer differential services for residential and business customers in the same area. Active Ethernet also supports a pay-as-you-grow philosophy by allowing new subscribers to be added within a 100km service area at minimal cost.

The Telco Systems EdgeGate product family is part of the Company’s field-proven RUS approved Active Ethernet solutions that include fiber aggregation switches to support up to 10Gigabits in a resilient ring or mesh topology in the metro network. These Carrier Ethernet aggregation switches and the field-proven EdgeGate CPE devices are the building blocks to create a complete feature-rich and cost-effective FTTH solution. As standards-based solutions, they create a flexible network topology which is not single-vendor dependent.

“We are pleased to offer a complete solution that can be implemented into a customer’s current network easily, provides higher bandwidth, and opens the door for a wider array of services,” stated Irit Gillath, vice president of product line management at Telco Systems. “We are already seeing deployment of the EdgeGate 242W in Europe and many US customers who deploy the current EdgeGate 483 are eager to implement resiliency with the new dual uplink option.”

Both new EdgeGate products will be available within 60 days.

Ekahau Announces Wi-Fi Location Tracking Software is Being Integrated Into GPS Receivers Designed by NavSync

Ekahau and NavSync Expand Location Tracking Capabilities With Combined Wi-Fi and GPS Tag

New NavTrac Wi-Fi-enabled GPS Devices Support Asset and Inventory Tracking From Inside Buildings to Around the World

Ekahau Inc., a leading provider of Wi-Fi-based Real Time Location Systems (RTLS), today announced that its Wi-Fi location tracking software is being integrated into GPS receivers designed by NavSync Ltd., a division of The Connor-Winfield Corp. With this innovative combination of wireless technologies, these new tags vastly expand the ability to track the location of assets and inventory in any environment – from inside a building or across a campus environment to anywhere around the world.

“Being able to track the location of assets and inventory both indoors and in complex or large outdoor environments with a single device over Wi-Fi is a game-changing innovation,” said Tuomo Rutanen, vice president of Business Development at Ekahau. “We are excited to be working with NavSync to bring to market a solution that will significantly enhance the usefulness of location tracking applications in a wide variety of industries – such as container yards, logistics depots and open pit mining operations – where Wi-Fi can be leveraged for connectivity and GPS satellite visibility is available.”

The Wi-Fi-enabled GPS tag combines NavSync’s NavTrac high performance GPS module with Ekahau’s location protocol. Ekahau location protocol is available free of charge as part of the Located by Ekahau program, which enables adding positioning to Wi-Fi-compliant devices. In order to begin tracking those devices, users need to deploy Ekahau Positioning Engine (EPE) server software, which can be installed centrally or remotely to support several customer sites over IP networks from a single server location.

NavSync’s NavTrac is a fourth-generation design that has gone through extensive testing and Wi-Fi/GPS integration, and has been proven in a wide variety of applications. NavTrac’s powerful GPS solution delivers low signal strength GPS tracking data for outdoor and other GPS coverage areas, while the Ekahau Positioning Engine and its patented algorithms are used to calculate the precise real-time location in indoor environments or campus settings where GPS visibility may be limited. Unlike other proprietary solutions, Ekahau’s technology enables location tracking over any existing standard Wi-Fi network, without the need for additional hardware or network infrastructure.

The Ekahau-enabled NavTrac Wi-Fi GPS tag is the first solution available in the market that will operate with GPS satellites and any brand or version of standard Wi-Fi network, to deliver a real-time tracking solution that can be quickly deployed and requires little or no upfront infrastructure costs. Location information from the tags can be seamlessly integrated into a variety of enterprise applications using National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) GPS standard protocols, as well as Ekahau’s HTTP/XML application programming interface.

“The new Ekahau-enabled NavTrac Wi-Fi GPS receivers provide precise tracking capabilities in tough environments, such as urban canyons and complex indoor areas, while transporting information over any Wi-Fi network infrastructure,” Dave Jahr, director of Business Development for NavSync. “The unique combination of NavSync’s GPS and Ekahau’s Wi-Fi technologies in a single product makes the NavTrac and Ekahau RTLS an indispensable solution for all current and future wireless tracking applications.”

The Ekahau-enabled NavTrac Wi-Fi-enabled GPS receivers will be available from NavSync and Ekahau in the third quarter 2009.
