PFS1764 - New High-Density Packet Flow Switch with 48 10G-1G and 4 40G Ports

Simena, the innovative leader in network monitoring and testing solutions, announced a new high-density packet flow switch, PFS1764, which has the highest port density and the lowest latency in the industry.

The PFS1764 offers 48 10G/1G and 4 40G ports in a compact 1RU chassis, making it the highest density non-blocking monitoring switch available in the industry. With port-to-port latency at a blazing 300ns and the flexibility of running all features on any available port, the PFS1764 is the perfect fit for even the most demanding networks. The PFS1764 will also have support for various timestamping methods, the first implementation supports one Pulse Per Second (1PPS).

“PFS1764 brings a new concept to monitoring networks: high-speed packet switching and wire-speed packet processing in the same platform,” says Sezen Uysal, President of Simena. “It’s like a Linux server and a monitoring switch sandwiched into a single box.”

The PFS1764’s control plane is based on open Linux and runs on a multi-core processor with hardware accelerated packet processing. This open architecture gives users the flexibility to manage the PFS1764 like a Linux server. In addition, users can develop high speed custom packet processing applications and run them directly on the PFS1764 using Simena’s Software Development Kit (SDK).

Through its web based GUI, users can easily access and manage more than one switch as well as stacking multiple units together if needed. The PFS1764 can be managed through a USB console connection, as well as through SSH, Telnet, HTTPS, RS232D. Other new features are: MPLS, TACACS+ AAA, email alerts, SNMP traps and polling.

Simena prices the PFS1764 using per-port licensing model. Customers can start with an initial set of ports and upgrade according to their data center’s ever expanding requirements. Unlocking ports can be easily accomplished via the GUI without interrupting production traffic.

Simena will be introducing PFS1764 at the Interop 2011 show in New York at booth #245 on October 5th and 6th. For more information about Simena and its products, visit http://www.simena.net, or call +1.571.323.1500.
