Spirent Announces Successful Testing of LTE/UMTS Mobility Using eAirAccess Multi-RAT Network Emulator with Icera’s Espresso® 410 LTE/Dual Cell Reference Platform
Spirent Showcases Successful LTE/UMTS Mobility Testing with Icera
Spirent eAirAccess Proves Out LTE/UMTS Roaming Test Capability Using Icera Espresso® 410
Spirent Communications, a leader in testing wireless networks, services and devices, has verified successful testing of LTE/UMTS mobility using Spirent’s eAirAccess Multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) network emulator with Icera’s Espresso® 410 LTE/Dual Cell reference platform. The Espresso® 410 was one of the first platforms to add LTE capability to existing high speed multimode HSPA+ / 3G / 2G technology support. The activity took place in Icera’s laboratories in Bristol, England, United Kingdom.
“Mobility” refers to the ability of a cellular device to seamlessly transition voice and data calls as a user moves throughout and between networks using different technologies. This process, called “handover”, is a critical part of the rollout of LTE services which must co-exist with legacy-technology cellular networks.
eAirAccess is Spirent’s multi-RAT (CDMA/EVDO/UMTS/HSPA/LTE) network emulator used for testing chipsets and mobile devices during their research and development as well as design verification phases. Icera’s Espresso® 410 is a reference design based on the company’s Livanto® baseband and RF chipsets. The design is the basis for multi-mode LTE/UMTS data cards and handsets.
“Spirent has already helped leading CDMA operators and device makers deliver successful LTE/CDMA mobility,” said Spirent vice president Hesham ElHamahmy. “As a result, subscribers are able to roam in and out of LTE coverage areas while continuing to enjoy the best possible quality of experience. Now we’ve shown that we’re able to deliver the same capabilities to UMTS carriers and vendors who are preparing to roll out LTE services.”
