eYeka Unveils Next Generation Smartphone with Innovative Holographic Projection Phone and Top Prizes
Next Generation Smartphones Have No Screens, Designed By Consumers
Over 130 phone designs submitted with the Screen-less “Hologram Phone” taking top honors
eYeka, the leading global co-creation community, is unveiling the results of its “Next Generation Smartphone” competition with an innovative holographic projection phone and a shape-shifting phone claiming top prizes.
eYeka tasked creative consumers to imagine a next generation of smart-phones that could provide authentic, consumer-driven inspiration to leading phone manufacturers. The eYeka community submitted over 130 original phone designs. eYeka member j-bouille won the top prize with an exciting concept for a “Round Phone”, a modular device that uses holographic projections as a screen and can interact with everything you touch or see, letting you know instantly what temperature your shower is or what groceries you need to repurchase. Another innovative concept is the “Flexphone” from eYeka member iKev. iKev designed a foldable smart-phone based on actual research into thin flexible Organic-Light-Emitting Diodes (OLED). The phone easily transforms from a device that fits in your pocket to a game console or to a tablet size computer. (Video: http://www.vimeo.com/22557348)
François Petavy, CEO of eYeka said: “’Round smart-phone’ isn’t a buzzword coming from a R&D lab. It’s a concept created by a real, everyday person. We see this as a perfect example of how companies can use consumers’ creative potential to deliver breakthrough innovation for their new product development.”
Co-Creation, a term that is often confused with “crowdsourcing,” is defined by Doug Williams of Forrester Research, Inc. in his July 2010 blog post, Social Co-Creation: 9 Benefits And 6 Challenges For Using Social Technologies To Improve Your Products, as “the act of involving consumers directly, and in some cases repeatedly, in the product creation or innovation process.” To further explore how consumer co-creation can be used to deliver genuine innovation in marketing & communication, eYeka will soon be announcing the first Co-Creation Forum, a North American based industry initiative that will promote best practices and stimulate thought-leadership among co-creation practitioners, communities and businesses.
