Mindspeed to Showcase the World’s First Commercially Available 10G-EPON Burst-Mode Receiver Chipset at the FOE 2011

Mindspeed to Demonstrate Industry’s First Commercially Available 10G-EPON Burst-Mode Receiver Chipset at Fiber Optics Expo 2011

Company Will Showcase Dual-Rate Solution that Combines High-Performance with Low-Power, while Retaining Backward-Compatibility with Existing GEPON Systems

Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, will be demonstrating the world’s first commercially available 10 Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (10G-EPON) burst-mode receiver chipset at the Fiber Optics Expo 2011 (FOE 2011), April 13 through April 15, 2011, at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center in Tokyo, Japan.

“Mindspeed will be showing FOE attendees the world’s first commercially available solution for accelerating 10G-EPON network adoption by enabling multi-service access equipment to handle higher data rates and more broadband users,” said Hasnain Bajwa, senior vice president and general manager of the lightspeed connectivity solutions (LCS) business unit at Mindspeed Technologies. “This solution is particularly important in the Japanese market, where carriers need cost-effective, easy-to-deploy solutions for migrating their current gigabit-rate access networks to 10G-EPON capabilities.”

Mindspeed(R)’s burst-mode receiver chipset includes its recently announced M02138 10G burst mode dual-rate transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and the company’s companion M02142 11.3 Gbps limiting amplifier. Together, the two devices provide a complete, cost-effective solution for 10G-EPON Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), while maintaining backward compatibility with existing GEPON designs. Mindspeed will be conducting end-to-end demonstrations of its burst-mode receiver chipset using a complete 10G-EPON optical networking unit (ONU) reference design. The ONU reference design will be shown transmitting burst-mode 10G-EPON-compliant traffic to an M02138-based Receiver Optical Subassembly (ROSA) and an M02142-based optical line termination (OLT) receiver. The demonstration also will feature Mindspeed’s M02170 10G burst mode laser diode driver that is designed specifically to drive a distributed feedback laser (DFB) and operating in low power consumption.

Mindspeed’s 10G-EPON burst-mode receiver chipset leverages the company’s extensive experience in TIAs and limiting amplifiers to deliver a proven, high-value platform for next-generation equipment design. The chipset is part of Mindspeed’s broad offering of fiber-optic solutions, which span the entire spectrum of optical networking transceiver solutions from OC-3 to OC-192 speeds, in support of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Gigabit Ethernet/Fibre Channel digital data transmission standards.

About Mindspeed Technologies

Mindspeed designs, develops and sells semiconductor solutions for communications applications in the wireline and wireless network infrastructure, which includes enterprise networks, broadband access networks (fixed and mobile), and metropolitan and wide area networks. We have organized our solutions for these interrelated and rapidly converging networks into three families. Our communications convergence processing (CCP) products include ultra-low-power, multi-core digital signal processor (DSP) system-on-chip (SoC) products for the fixed and mobile (3G/4G/LTE) carrier infrastructure and residential and enterprise service platforms. Our high-performance analog (HPA) products solve difficult switching, timing and synchronization challenges in next-generation optical networking, enterprise storage and broadcast video transmission applications. Our wide area networking (WAN) communications portfolio helps optimize today’s circuit-switched networks. Mindspeed’s products are sold to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for use in a variety of network infrastructure equipment which serves these markets.
