SNRLabs Launches SNRGrade, QoE Metric to Make Intelligent Connectivity Decisions
SNRLabs Launches SNRGradeTM: a Quality of User Experience (QoE) Metric for Intelligent WiFi Offload
First Connectivity QoE Metric That Enables Comparison between Cellular and WiFi
SNRLabs Corporation (“SNRLabs”), a leading provider of middleware for radio management in converged mobile devices, announces the release of SNRGradeTM – a QoE metric that enables devices to make intelligent connectivity decisions. SNRGradeTM is the first metric that allows the device to compare the QoE between disparate networks, such as 3G, WiFi, LTE and WiMAX.
SNRGradeTM was created based on pioneering research into network responsiveness and its impact on user experience. This metric enables mobile network operators to better manage the explosive growth in data traffic on their networks by offloading traffic from cellular to WiFi networks when possible while ensuring a consistent user experience. WiFi Offload is a central theme at the Mobile World Congress 2011.
The SNRGrade™ metric is agnostic to radio chipset, device drivers, network stack, application processor, OS and application. SNRGradeTM quantitatively measures end-to-end quality of the connection from the mobile device to the service or application being accessed, and then relates the results to a user’s experience in terms of connection availability, service access time and perceived connection speed.
“Our extensive research to find the most relevant QoE led us to the development of SNRGrade™ – which objectively measures the quality of cellular and WiFi networks,” said Dr. Yuan Kang Lee, Chief Architect, SNRLabs. “SNRGrade™ evaluates multiple client-side parameters to accurately measure the user’s connection experience while being independent of any hardware platform or chipset.”
SNRLabs has incorporated SNRGradeTM in its new product line – VergereTM. Vergere™ ensures that a mobile device user has the best connectivity at any given time, factoring in multiple parameters, such as connection quality, battery life, cost, application context, operator policy and user profiles. It is capable of providing a seamless mobile experience to the user, when migrating connectivity between cellular and WiFi.
SNRLabs is currently engaged with multiple silicon vendors, OS providers, operators and mobile device manufacturers. SNRLabs has released a white paper (available upon request) about SNRGradeTM in which the impact of connectivity on the mobile user experience is quantified.
