Leostream and HLW Partner to Deliver Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Support for Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

Leostream and HLW Form Partnership to Deliver Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Support for iPad and iPhone

Leostream Connection Broker and iTap RDP/VNC Clients Combine to Provide Remote Access to Windows and Linux Desktops on Apple Mobile Devices

Leostream Corporation, a leading developer of virtual hosted desktop software, and HLW Software Development GmbH, a leading developer of iOS remote desktop software and providers of IT consulting services, today announced a partnership that will deliver virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) support for the Apple® iPad™, iPhone™, and iPod Touch®. The solution adds a component of the Leostream Connection Broker to the iTap remote desktop clients, enabling access to Windows and Linux virtual desktops from the popular Apple mobile devices.

The most widely deployed, vendor-independent technology of its kind, the Leostream Connection Broker connects a wide range of systems to easily create a unified VDI, linking end users to their desktop images for a superior experience. Utilizing the Microsoft RDP protocol, iTap RDP features advanced compression and caching technologies to offer complete control over, and convenient access to Windows desktops from anywhere. iTap VNC (available at the end of September) enables use and management of Linux desktops with the speed and convenience of iTap RDP.

With the joint solution, Apple mobile device users will be able to log in remotely to their virtual desktops through the Leostream extension in iTap RDP. The Connection Broker triggers the iTap family of clients to quickly and automatically launch either a RDP session for access to Windows desktops or a VNC session for Linux desktops.

“The technology partnership with HLW furthers Leostream’s leadership position of delivering any kind of virtual desktop to any client device,” said Michael Palin, CEO of Leostream. “Enterprises are moving beyond limited virtualization trials into large scale deployments. For the technology’s acceptance within the mainstream to grow, it’s crucial to support users with popular cutting-edge mobile devices from Apple.”

“Enterprises are planning their futures around virtualization platforms, and the iPad and iPhone represent the technology ‘lifeblood’ for many users,” said Peter Honeder, co-owner of HLW. “Combining the strengths of Leostream’s Connection Broker and our iTap clients ensures that businesses can proceed with virtualization plans confidently, knowing they have a robust solution that incorporates all users, and without the risk of being locked into a single vendor.”

The joint solution will be shown at VMworld 2010 as a part of a demonstration of the Leostream Connection Broker 7.0. Demonstrations will take place at the Leostream booth (#118), where show attendees will be able to enter their names for a daily iPad giveaway. A limited number of complimentary iTap RDP licenses with the Leostream extension will be made available during the event.
