RFaxis Announces RFeIC to Deliver Best-of-Class Performance and Efficiency for Battery Wireless Devices Even at Ultra-Low Voltages
RFaxis’ Chips Go Green by Delivering Best-of-Class RF Front-End Performance at Ultra-Low Voltages
RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focusing on innovative, next-generation solutions for the wireless and connectivity markets, today announced that its family of innovative RF Front-end Integrated Circuits (RFeIC) have been qualified to deliver best-of-class performance and efficiency for battery-operated wireless devices even at ultra-low voltages.
“As the mobile data movement grows exponentially, a new breed of ultra-mobile devices has taken the industry by storm. If we overlay this rocketing trend with the pervasive demand for portable wireless devices, controllers and sensors with long operating lives between battery recharges or replacement, it is clear that ‘wireless’ is as much about battery efficiency as it is about mobile and portable connectivity,” said Mike Neshat, president and CEO of RFaxis. “Hence, it is crucial to not only advance battery and fuel cell technology, but also to design devices that make efficient and optimal use of existing battery solutions. Our state-of-the-art RF front-end architecture and circuit designs give our silicon-based RFeICs the unique ability to perform high quality and high efficiency transmit and receive functions at ultra-low voltages, thus enabling long-lasting portable wireless devices that can run on even a single cell alkaline battery.”
RFaxis’ CTO, Dr. Oleksandr Gorbachov, goes on to explain, “All RF front-end solutions today operate between 2.7 and 3.3 volts, delivering output power levels up to 20dBm with gains between 18dB to 20dB for high power ZigBee and Bluetooth applications, and gains between 25dB to 30dB for WLAN applications. Our RFeIC devices can provide comparable output power levels and gains using only a 1.5 volt, single cell alkaline battery and can efficiently operate in modern portable systems with a 0.8 volt, single fuel cell battery, thus making our front-end solutions second to none when it comes to battery efficiency for mobile wireless devices.”
Neshat concludes, “Given the significant environmental benefit in reducing the number of batteries needed to power the massive number of ubiquitous wireless devices such as gaming/remote controllers, laptops/netbooks/e-readers, camcorders, media players, baby-monitors, headsets, building/asset sensors, etc., RFaxis truly is a major catalyst for the global green revolution. After all, smart energy is not just about inventing clever devices; it’s also about doing clever things with everyday devices.”
RFaxis’ RFeICs for WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n, ZigBee and Bluetooth applications are available today, and all can readily support ultra-low voltages.
