Ericsson today announced that it has been selected by Edgenics, an emerging broadband and E-learning solutions provider, to be the prime integrator of its next-generation broadband network. Ericsson will supply, deploy, host and manage the packet core network, reaching more than 3.5 million people in 750+ rural communities throughout the southeast quadrant of the United States. The new network will enable Edgenics to deliver cutting-edge value added services and other E-learning solutions. Edgenics will offer inexpensive broadband connectivity to previously underserved rural communities as well as value added services that expand economic growth and development opportunities.
“Prime integration is what Ericsson does best,” said Craig Stein, Ericsson vice president for US Regions, Broadband and Media Accounts. “By working with our customers on each aspect of their networks, we are able to fine tune the integration in a way that optimizes performance unlike anyone else. Our global leadership in prime integration ensures Edgenics will have a high-quality and reliable broadband network, allowing them to further develop new and innovative solutions such as ICONN.”
The network deployment is planned during the next three years.
“Ericsson’s global leadership, multi-service technology, deployment and management capabilities were exactly what Edgenics was looking for in a network partner for this undertaking,” said Robert E. Dansby, Chief Executive Officer of Edgenics. “We look forward to continuing to work with Ericsson as we roll out this new network that extends broadband connectivity to rural communities, as well as hosting ICONN and delivering unique content in collaboration with universities around the country.”
With a focus on online continuing education services through interactive multi-media, Edgenics works closely with universities and education professionals to provide high quality educational content and instructional resources.
In addition to providing educational resources, Edgenics also connects universities through the Intercollegiate Online News Network (ICONN). The new broadband network allows Edgenics to launch ICONN as a hosted service for universities throughout the United States. Announced with the University of Tennessee, 16 universities have joined the ICONN network and can now benefit from sharing news and information to their students and alumni.
