First “LEIMONE” Brand Dual Network 3G Multi-Media Phone to Be Distributed by China Telecom
Zoom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZOOM – News), a leading China based manufacturer of mobile phones and other mobile electronic products, today unveiled the LEIMONE E63, its first in a series of 3G “LEIMONE” brand phones. The E63 supports CDMA2000/GSM dual-mode with two card slots: UIM & SIM and is designed specifically for China Telecom’s 3G network recently rolled out in China. This advanced multi-media business phone allows the user access to two mobile phone lines within a single device: 3G (CDMA2000 1x, EVDO) and multi-band 800/900/1800 mHz GSM. Among its features are: Web browsing, multi-media player that supports both MP3 and MP4, FM radio, Bluetooth, SMS, MMS, WAP, two cameras (main lens at 2.0 megapixel resolution plus an ancillary one at 0.3m on the front to enable video conferencing), 2.8 inch TFT touch window display with 65.6K colors and 320 x 240 resolution, expansion slot that accepts a maximum 32G micro SD card, a strong battery with ultra-long talk and standby times, and even supports QQ — the most popular instant messaging software platform in China.

Mr. Gu continues, “This E63 3G phone will lead off a series of four LEIMONE 3G phones to hit the market this year. We are planning to roll out Android OS based products by this summer, and this will further enhance our brand name and the recognition of our capabilities. With Zoom’s video capable devices, the company is anticipating cooperation with China Telecom and CCTV in its publicity campaign surrounding the usage of video services on 3G mobile handsets to stir up the public’s interest in value-add services on this new media. We look forward to entering this media business by actively pursuing the acquisition of Leimone Culture, as Leimone Culture’s contract with CCTV can potentially awards us a 50% share in revenues that can be generated from the delivery of content and services.”
Regarding the impact of advanced phones on our business, Mr. Gu added, “From the E63 and other advanced 3G models that we plan to launch this year with distribution from China Mobile in addition to China Telecom, we expect our profitability to improve as these products generally carry a higher margin. As we previously disclosed, for 2010 we expect net margins to increase to 4.4% from 3.3% in 2009. We believe that the increased production of our own branded phones, along with the strength of our EMS business, will assist in improving our margins and increase our presence in the 3G network industry in China.”
