KVH Industries Announces Expansion of mini-VSAT Broadband(sm) Coverage in the Atlantic Ocean
KVH Expands Atlantic Ocean Coverage for mini-VSAT Broadband Service
Broader coverage extends beyond the original North Atlantic service area to provide service into Greenland and northern Europe and as far south as the horn of Brazil
In a move designed to expand access to broadband services for commercial and leisure mariners alike, KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI – News) today announced a significant expansion of mini-VSAT Broadband(sm) coverage in the Atlantic Ocean. Where service was previously available only in the North Atlantic shipping lanes between Europe and North America, the new coverage area brings broadband Internet and voice service as far north as Greenland and Northern Europe and extends south to support vessels traveling to the Mediterranean, northwestern Africa, and approaching the northern coast of Brazil. This new service area is fully operational now and available to all existing and new mini-VSAT Broadband service users.
“With a dramatically larger Atlantic service region, the benefits of the mini-VSAT Broadband network and our TracPhone® V7 satellite communication system are now available to and practical for an even larger number of commercial maritime operators as well as leisure boaters who need to stay in touch with office and family,” remarked Brent C. Bruun, KVH’s vice president of sales and business development. “At the same time, the addition of expanded Atlantic coverage moves us another step closer to our goal of making a seamless global broadband communications service available to mariners who seek the affordability of a compact VSAT solution.”
The mini-VSAT Broadband service, along with the KVH TracPhone V7 antenna, comprise the first end-to-end 24-inch VSAT system, service, and support package available for maritime communications. Seven secure earth stations around the globe, together with seven of the world’s most powerful communications satellites, bring affordable, high-speed Internet connections and crystal clear voice service to maritime customers through the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband network. For aeronautical customers, ViaSat, KVH’s collaborator in this network development effort, markets the service under the Yonder(sm) brand to business and commercial aircraft.
