Durham Public Schools Selects tw telecom to Deliver Advanced Voice and Data Services for District’s New Data Center; 58 Schools
Multi-year contract includes tw telecom’s VersiPak service, which gives DPS unprecedented efficiency in meeting its voice, Internet and long-distance needs
tw telecom (Nasdaq: TWTC – News), a leading national provider of managed voice, Internet and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced that Durham (N.C.) Public Schools has selected it to provide advanced voice and data services to the district and its 58 schools and office buildings. As part of the agreement, tw telecom will provide a direct fiber connection from tw telecom’s national IP network to DPS’s new centralized data center.
“Our decision to select tw telecom was a relatively simple one,” said Mike Muirhead, Information Technology Executive Director at Durham Public Schools. “tw telecom provides the highly reliable and affordable communications services that our schools need. And, just as important, tw telecom provides a level of flexibility and responsiveness that allows them to meet all of our unique service and billing needs.”
In addition to the direct fiber connection to its new data center, DPS is using tw telecom’s VersiPak service, a tailor-made package of voice, Internet and long-distance. VersiPak offers unprecedented efficiency by allowing customers to share bandwidth for voice and data services, and then dynamically allocating voice bandwidth over to data services when voice channels are not being used. tw telecom also is installing PRIs to the district’s data center, which will supply all the dial-tone for the district.
“Durham Public Schools has been a leader in giving students real choices as they pursue the career paths that most interest them,” said Marilyn Finfrock, vice president and general manager for tw telecom in Raleigh/Durham. “We’re pleased that the voice and data services we are providing will help maintain that momentum by keeping educators, administrators and students connected with their community in the most reliable, efficient and affordable way possible.”
tw telecom connects more commercial buildings to its fiber network than any other competitive communications provider, only exceeded by the large global incumbents. In fact, it has the third highest market share of retail Ethernet ports in service. With its own national fiber network and IP backbone, tw telecom has the national capability, robust product portfolio and national/local customer care teams to support mission critical enterprise applications and to deliver the industry’s most sought after customer experience.
