Hatteras Networks and Calix Join to Participate in the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP)
Calix and Hatteras Partner to Offer Joint Solution to Enable Broadband for Un-Served and Underserved Communities
Rural independent operating companies to leverage joint solution as part of Broadband Stimulus grants
Hatteras Networks, the global leader in Mid-Band Ethernet solutions for enterprise access and next-generation mobile backhaul, and Calix, the largest communications equipment supplier focused solely on access solutions for broadband service delivery, today announced their partnership, joint solution, and the certification of Hatteras Networks’ products in the Calix Compatible Solution Assurance Program.
Hatteras and Calix customers participating in the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP) drove the partnership. The joint solution and the joint development efforts include interoperability of the Hatteras EoC solution with the Calix E5-120 and the integration of both companies’ products into the ODC-100 cabinet.
The BTOP is the portion of stimulus monies identified in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 for the advancement of broadband services in un-served and underserved communities as well as for improved access to broadband by public safety agencies. The BTOP provides $4.7 billion to be distributed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and $2.5 billion to be administered by Rural Utilities Service (RUS).
The Calix Compatible Program is a multi-vendor interoperability and compatibility certification program designed to help service providers more easily ascertain the production viability of emerging solution sets incorporating disparate hardware and software elements. Extensive joint product testing was done in the following areas: Ethernet backhaul transport; fault handling; network management; and application and stress testing.
“We are excited about partnering with a well established player like Calix and becoming a certified member of their Calix Compatible Solution Assurance Program. Our partnership is in direct response to our customers’ requests,” said Vijay Raman, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Hatteras Networks. “Partnering with other access vendors for compatibility is especially important to our customers’ efforts to win Federal stimulus grants.”

About Hatteras Networks
Hatteras Networks is redefining the way carriers think about Ethernet services. Hatteras Networks’ EFM service delivery solutions are leading service providers worldwide to a significant expansion of the Metro Ethernet market, which had previously been limited to the fiber footprint. Historically, T1s and E1s have been the fundamental building blocks for voice and data business services. Now, service providers can cost-effectively offer 45 Mbps and higher Mid-Band Ethernet services over existing copper facilities, enabling businesses to migrate from legacy Frame Relay, ATM and T1/E1 connections to transparent Ethernet services for voice and data business connectivity, infrastructure backhaul and mobile wireless backhaul solutions.
Already deployed on five continents, Hatteras Networks solutions are enabling a market expansion for carriers that is as significant for business services as “triple play” is for residential. For more information, visit www.hatterasnetworks.com.
