SMC Networks Announces TigerAccess VDSL2 for Deliver High-Bandwidth Network Connectivity with Data Transfer Speeds of Up to 100Mbps
SMC Networks Ships Next-Generation VDSL2 Infrastructure Solution for Hospitality and MDUs, Enabling Advanced Management, Video on Demand and IPTV Support
SMC Networks’ TigerAccess(TM) Extended Ethernet Switch Allows the Distribution of High-Speed Network Connectivity over Existing Telephone Wires Eliminating the Cost of Installing Ethernet Cabling
SMC Networks, a leading provider of advanced, high performance networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, today announced it has begun shipping its new TigerAccess(TM) Extended Ethernet Switch (SMC7824M/VSW) and TigerAccess Extended Ethernet CPE (SMC7801A/VCP). The TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution, which is ideal for use in multi-unit environments such as hotels and office buildings, enables the deployment of voice, video, and data access with bandwidth speeds up to 100Mbps over existing category 1, 2 or 3 wiring.
Ideal for use in buildings without an Ethernet wiring infrastructure, or as a replacement solution for outdated, slow VDSL1 equipment, the TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution utilizes VDSL2 technology to deliver high-bandwidth network connectivity with data transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps to support services such as HDTV streaming, video-on-demand and high-speed Internet access over existing telephone wiring infrastructure. For hotels that currently have an ad hoc network infrastructure, SMC’s 24-port VDSL2 solution is an ideal, high performance, manageable system for delivering secure high-speed network connectivity to their guests.
For SMC’s reseller partners, the TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution enables them to offer higher levels of support, service and features to their MDU (multi-dwelling unit) customers while enjoying a fast Return-on-Investment (ROI). When deployed in conjunction with SMC’s newly-released Managed Service Platform, which enables IT administrators to monitor and manage multiple network infrastructures from a single browser-based application, these new solutions expand the capabilities and profit margins of SMC’s resellers.
“Our new VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution is generating a great deal of excitement among our resellers and their customers, particularly in the hospitality industry, given the growing demand for cutting-edge in-room network-connected services by guests such as IP telephony, video conferencing and broadband Internet access,” explained Iain Kenney, Director of Product Marketing at SMC Networks. “Using VDSL2 over the existing wiring infrastructure enables the delivery of these advanced network applications and can give hotel operators a competitive advantage over the competition without the need to expend valuable time and expense of installing new cabling. In addition, many of the current deployed VDSL solutions are based on older technologies that cannot support the advanced bandwidth-intensive applications that today’s travelers demand. Our new VDSL2 solution allows users to deliver those bandwidth-intensive applications to each guest room using the existing phone wire infrastructure enabling them to meet the demands of their guests without the expense and time required to install an Ethernet-based infrastructure.”
About the TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution
According to Keith Alexis, VP of Sales & Marketing at SMC Networks, TigerAccess VDSL2 solves problems for a myriad of client applications. “In addition to enabling users to expand services such as Video-on-Demand, IPTV, VoIP, and other required features, TigerAccess VDSL2 provides a solution for those needing to leverage web applications or those considering the integration of solutions like Unified Communication into their networks. Bandwidth restrictions limit the effectiveness of these offerings in a variety of locations such as historic buildings, apartments, school campuses, cruise lines, and other areas where higher speeds to the client hardware are mandatory, but not achievable today. SMC’s TigerAccess VDSL2 solves that problem with advanced features like DiffServ, Rate Limiting, or 4,000 802.1q VLAN capability which ensure that this suite of products come with the features that compliment the applications most important to our clients.” Alexis added that all components of the VDSL2 solution, including the CPEs, are enabled with an auto function that puts the unit into a sleep mode until it’s back in use, saving a considerable amount on energy costs for users.
The TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Switch (SMC7824M/VSW) features two RJ-21 ports, which contain 24 extended Ethernet ports, two RJ-45 Gigabit uplink ports, a 100BASE-T management port, and RJ-45 console port. Based upon the VDSL2 standard, the SMC7824M/VSW delivers speeds of up to 100Mbps to a distance of 800 feet.
The SMC7824M/VSW offers a host of features including: Spanning Tree protocol, VLAN support for up to 256 groups, Quality-of-Service, MultiLink Trunking (LACP), port mirroring, and RADIUS client. The versatile switch can be managed via Telnet, SSHv2, SNMP manager (including SNMPv3), and the RS232 console port.
The TigerAccess Extended Ethernet CPE (SMC7801A/VCP), which delivers an Ethernet data link speed of up to 100 Mbps in full-duplex mode, simultaneously supports standard telephone services and easily connects to PC- and Macintosh-based computer systems through a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port. When paired with the Extended Ethernet Switch, the SMC7801A/VCP enables broadband connectivity without the need for any rewiring.
The SMC TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Switch and Extended Ethernet CPE are backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, and are now available worldwide.
