Telit’s GE865-Quad GSM/GPRS Cellular Module Earns PTCRB Certification for use in North America

World’s Smallest Cellular M2M Module is Immediately Available for Deployment in the U.S.

Telit Wireless Solutions, a global leader in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and a subsidiary of Telit Communications PLC (AIM: TCM), announced today that the world’s smallest cellular M2M module, the GE865-QUAD, has earned PTCRB certification. With PTCRB certification, which is required by GSM cellular operators to sell GSM cellular communication products in North America, the GE865-QUAD GSM/GPRS module is immediately available for deployment on select cellular networks in the U.S.

“The popularity of M2M is quickly growing within the consumer electronics and healthcare sectors, and in order to meet the requirements for these verticals, Telit has developed a small but powerful module,” said Michael Ueland, Vice President & General Manager of Telit Wireless Solutions, North America. “At about the size of a postage stamp, our GE865-QUAD is not only the world’s smallest GSM/GPRS module, but it’s packed with Telit’s unmatched features and is ideal for personal tracking and health monitoring applications.”

The GE865-QUAD boasts an extremely compact form factor at only 22 x 22 x 3 mm and weighs only 3.2 grams. Based on a single-chip solution, the GE865-QUAD features optimized power consumption while being more flexible than its predecessors. The innovative module features a Ball Grid Array (BGA) design, tape and reel packaging and an integrated TCP/IP protocol stack, that provides support for UDP, FTP and SMTP via AT commands.

Telit’s GE865-QUAD also comes equipped with Premium FOTA Management, enabling over-the-air remote upgrades of the module software. In addition, the GE865-QUAD features RUN AT Commands which allows users to run any AT Command via SMS or TCP. The remote control of different events on the application side is drastically simplified by using text messages from any phone for both activation commands and receiving replies. Some key applications of this feature are related to monitoring of GPIOs, roaming, battery level, voltage or module state with the possibility to send alerts in the event that conditions change. The GE865-QUAD’s rugged design enables its use in an extended temperature range from -40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C). For more information about Telit’s GE865-QUAD, visit www.telit.com.
