Qosmos Launches Version 5.0 of Qosmos ixEngine Software Development Kit (SDK)
Qosmos Delivers Next-Generation Network Intelligence
Launch of Qosmos ixEngine® 5.0 Enables Solution Providers to Harness Network Data for More Powerful Mobile and Government Applications
Qosmos today announced the launch of version 5.0 of its Qosmos ixEngine Software Development Kit (SDK), offering a range of powerful new capabilities to mine more network data among an expanded set of applications, at higher speeds and with additional usability.
Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 is a breakthrough in Network Intelligence gathering technology, with dozens of new features. Core technology innovations include:
- Expanded network and application protocol recognition for unparalleled knowledge of traffic content, context and patterns
- Unique customization features with a Protocol Plugin API for custom development
- New Qosmos Sessionizer™ that correlates raw traffic into sessions, and related sessions into applications
- Unbreakable performance at the highest speeds for throughputs up to 80 Gbps
In particular, Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 introduces additional features for mobile applications:
- Advanced filtering and analysis capabilities for better management of mobile traffic and greater visibility at all levels (device, application, action, user)
- Support for the latest mobile Webmail and Instant Messaging protocols
- Enhanced GPRS Tunneling Protocol support
For government applications, the new Protocol Plugin API available in Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 provides greater control and confidentiality of proprietary solutions, while shortening response time to cyber threats.
Qosmos Network Intelligence technology identifies and extracts data traveling over networks in real time, providing a true picture of its purpose, use and value. A real-time view of events is crucial for a wide variety of security and commercial applications such as lawful interception, cyber security, regulatory compliance, content billing, and service optimization.
“Qosmos enables solution providers to harness the network as a source for intelligence in and of itself,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO of Qosmos. “Applications and services that are powered by Qosmos Network Intelligence can scale with the exponential increases in data communications, defend against the growing number of cyber threats, and capture additional revenues from the Internet.”
“Granular network intelligence is a critical tool in providing not only access to and visibility of data in motion, but also in serving as an enabler to a variety of other applications and services that are contingent upon understanding of network and subscriber behavior,” said David Vorhaus, Senior Analyst at Yankee Group. “While intelligence mining technologies such as DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) already have widespread adoption among network operators, the use cases for this level of intelligence are now broadening out to third-party developers, integrators, alternative service providers and other enterprise verticals.”
Qosmos ixEngine SDK consists of pre-developed, customizable, reusable Network Intelligence “building blocks” that are easily integrated into new or existing solutions. Using Qosmos ixEngine, software vendors and network equipment providers can ensure optimal performance, enhance the security and protect the profitability of their applications and services for telecom operator, enterprise and government markets.
Highlights of the new capabilities in Qosmos ixEngine 5.0:
Additional network and application protocols deliver the broadest and deepest knowledge base on the market.
- Qosmos ixEngine identifies more than 300 different network and application protocols, and extracts 4,000 different metadata. Constantly updated protocol and application signatures ensure that third-party solutions are future-proof. Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 can generate any HTTP plugin automatically (e.g. for specific Websites or Web applications), thus dramatically increasing recognition coverage of HTTP-based applications.
- Support for IPv6 and transition mechanisms, along with enhanced GPRS Tunneling Protocol support provide full visibility into mobile traffic encapsulated in GTP.
Enhanced usability and unique customization features accelerate integration and provide greater control for proprietary solutions.
- The new Protocol Plugin API enables developers to create custom plugins to identify and extract relevant data from any protocol or application. As a result, solution developers are able to support proprietary protocols and can efficiently create unique differentiators based on their own expertise. This provides an added level of security for highly sensitive systems, and greater precision in revenue-generating solutions.
- Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 also expands its support for a wide variety of standard platforms, including 64-bit processors, advanced symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support for scalability of up to 96 cores and Linux Standard Base (LSB) 3.x. The greater range of supported environments optimizes both system development and solution performance.
Advanced filtering and analysis capabilities for full network visibility and better data management.
- A new filtering mechanism enables selection of information based on Layer 7 criteria, for recognition at the “atomic” level.
- Qosmos Sessionizer allows multi-dimensional information analysis, correlating data flows into sessions, and sessions into applications to get visibility at the flow, session, application and user levels.
Now in beta testing among several customers, Qosmos ixEngine 5.0 will be commercially available starting in September 2009.
