Move Networks Announces Support for Intel Based Mobile Internet Devices

Move Media Player Plug-in to Provide Highest-Quality Internet Television on Linux-based Moblin platforms

Move Networks, a leading provider of Internet television services, today announced its plans to support Intel’s next generation Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform, codenamed Moorestown. The Move Media Player plug-in will allow consumers to access the highest-quality Internet television programming on Intel-based MIDs.

Earlier this year, Move Networks announced that it was optimizing its media player with a simplified user interface for Intel® Atom™ processor-based MIDs and Netbooks. With the announcement today, Move is extending its reach into the high-end smart phone segment, one of Intel’s target market segments for the Moorestown platform. The Move Media player plug-in will use the hardware accelerated codecs on the Moorestown platform to enable power efficient video decoding into high-definition resolution and is being optimized for the Linux-based Moblin OS.

Last month, Move Networks announced its acquisition of Inuk Networks, a leading IPTV and VOIP provider based in the UK. By doing so, Move has extended its capabilities with MSOs and telcos by providing a pre-loaded and pre-integrated version of its media player and programming guide – allowing easy “turn on” of any Move enabled device. Additionally, Move’s support for Intel’s portfolio of processors compliments Move’s value proposition of delivering a high-definition, television viewing experience to anyone, anywhere, at any time without interrupts with buffering and poor audio or video. Currently, Move Networks works with leading global broadcasters including ABC, FOX, ESPN, CW, Televisa & ProSieben.

“Intel continues to develop new technology platforms for MIDs and Netbooks that make its products the premier choice for consumers wanting Internet television on-the-go,” said Amy Schoen, Director of Consumer Device Programs at Move Networks. “By supporting Intel’s next generation Moorestown platform and the Linux-based Moblin OS, we’re reinforcing our commitment to servicing the mobile market and to deliver an Internet television experience to anyone, on any Internet connected device, at any time.”

“The digital video revolution is changing the Internet landscape in an unprecedented manner. Mobile Internet Devices represent one of the best ways to carry this rich Internet experience wherever you go,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in Intel’s ultra mobility group. “Intel’s Moorestown platform will provide an outstanding solution for video-based entertainment devices. We are delighted to be working with Move Networks to bring high-quality, high-resolution Internet television programming to next generation MIDs.”
