SMC Networks Launches TigerAccess(TM) Extended Ethernet Switch and TigerAccess Extended CPE for Voice and Data Access at Speeds up to 100Mbps

Press Release:

SMC Networks Targets Broadband Network Connectivity Demands of Hospitality Industry with Launch of Affordable VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution

SMC Networks’ TigerAccess(TM) Extended Ethernet Switch Enables the Distribution of High-Speed Network Connectivity in Multi-Unit Buildings and Enterprise Environments over Existing Telephone Wires

LAS VEGAS, SMC Networks, a leading provider of advanced, high performance networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, today announced the launch of the TigerAccess(TM) Extended Ethernet Switch (SMC7824M/VSW) and TigerAccess Extended Ethernet CPE (SMC7801A/VCP) at Interop Las Vegas 2009 (booth #969). Offered as a complete solution for multi-unit environments such as hotels and office buildings, the TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution, enables the deployment of voice and data access at speeds up to 100Mbps over existing category 1, 2 or 3 wiring.

Utilizing VDSL2 technology, which enables providers to offer high-bandwidth services such as HDTV streaming and Video on Demand over the existing telephone wires, the TigerAccess VDSL2 Extended Ethernet Solution is an ideal solution for service providers to supply broadband access with minimal or no changes to the existing wiring infrastructure.

In addition to two Gigabit copper uplink ports, the TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Switch supports up to 24 ports of VDSL2 connectivity with data transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps. Software features including Quality of Service (QoS) and IGMP ensure optimal support for advanced applications such as Video on Demand and other services of value in hospitality environments.

The TigerAccess Extended Ethernet CPE (Customer Premise Equipment), which is deployed at the customer end of the VDSL2 line, such as in a guest room or office, features a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port to connect to any PC or Macintosh with a 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX network interface card.

“Advanced applications such as high-definition television, in-room video conferencing and high-speed Internet are quickly becoming service offerings that both business and casual travelers alike expect at a minimum in the hotels in which they stay. Hotels that don’t offer these services these days are losing potential revenue,” explained Iain Kenney, Director of Product Marketing at SMC Networks. “However, for many existing hotels without pre-run Ethernet cabling, upgrading the existing infrastructure to support Ethernet cabling is not cost-effective. Our VDSL2 solution enables users to deliver high-speed network connectivity over the existing phone cables, easily and affordably without the need to rewire anything.”
