Cablecom Selects Patton SmartNode™ for Euro-ISDN VoIP and Data Service

In the “connect PBX” converged-IP service for SMEs, Switzerland’s largest cable network relies on SmartNode™ VoIP CPE to satisfy the stringent demands of classic ISDN users.

SmartNode™ VoIP… more than just talk

Patton-Inalp Networks AG — creator of SmartNode™ industry-leading VoIP technology —announced today that Cablecom — the largest cable-network operator in Switzerland — has selected the SmartNode™ 4630 Multiport BRI VoIP Router as customer premise equipment for its “connect PBX” ISDN VoIP and data service for small-to-medium enterprises.

“As a business service provider, we require innovative technology with the highest level of reliability,” said Sacha Jooss, Cablecom Product Manager, “and SmartNode hits both targets. Partnering with Patton-Inalp enabled us to establish our voice service at the highest level of quality.”

Providing up to 5 BRI ports and 8 VoIP channels, Patton’s SmartNode(TM) 4630 connects existing ISDN PBX systems to Cablecom’s IP network. The “connect PBX” service lowers overall communications costs for SMEs and preserves investment in classic ISDN equipment, while preparing a smooth path for future migration to an all-IP telephony system within the enterprise.

According to Mr. Jooss, “The SmartNode equipment works so reliably that management never hears from them, and that is a good sign. Selecting SmartNode enables us to meet the demanding expectations of traditional ISDN users.”

Cablecom’s decision was driven by Patton’s unique price-performance equation: SmartNode delivers voice quality comparable to ISDN combined with first-line stability and reliability in a low-cost, standalone form factor. A rich ISDN feature set allows users to use their handsets and PBX features exactly as they are accustomed.

Another deciding factor was the high-precision clock, unique to SmartNode, which eliminates interoperability failures with DECT, PBX and FAX communications that commonly occur when VoIP is deployed in ISDN environments.

Cablecom initially considered VoIP CPE from another world-renown U.S manufacturer, which supplies Cablecom’s backbone routers. However the cost-per-unit was too high to support the business model, only modular solutions were available, and paid support contracts were required.

Patton includes free lifetime tech support with every product purchased.

The Patton-Cablecom solution is published as a RealityCheck success story with additional quotations, solution benefits, and an application drawing.

SmartNode recently won INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

On 1 January 2009 Patton marked their 25th anniversary and named Robert R. Patton as CEO.
