Tellabs Announces New Feature Package 14 on The Tellabs 1000 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP)
Tellabs Offers the Lowest-Cost Path to Ethernet Broadband Access
Perfect fit for migrating underserved areas under federal broadband stimulus program
Users deserve next-generation broadband services, no matter where they live. To meet this need, service providers such as Independent Operating Companies (IOC) and Regional Local Exchange Carriers (RLEC), have had to rip out and replace equipment or overlay expensive Ethernet platforms onto existing equipment. Not anymore. The new Feature Package 14 on the Tellabs® 1000 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP) offers an innovative solution to help service providers succeed with Ethernet and IP access in a very cost-efficient manner.
With more than 84,000 Tellabs 1000 Remote Subscriber Terminals (RSTs) installed in North America, hundreds of service providers now have an instant “shovel-ready” solution. The upgrade does not require infrastructure changes, eliminating the “rip-and-replace” approach. It enables service providers to continue delivering profitable traditional services as they add next-generation high-speed Ethernet and IP services via an end-to-end Ethernet access platform.
The upgrade helps service providers lower costs and speeds time to market for IP/Ethernet transport and services. Service providers can now:
- Offer faster DSL, mobile backhaul and business services without sacrificing carrier-class reliability and redundancy,
- Reduce power consumption by 70% compared with overlay solutions, and
- Maintain existing switching system interface groups, offering substantial savings per upgrade.
“Tellabs access innovations enable us to help customers succeed as they upgrade to broadband services for underserved areas,” said Rich Schroder, vice president and general manager. “Tellabs uniquely enables profitable legacy services to co-exist with new Ethernet and IP services on the same cost-efficient access platform.”
