Promptu Introduces ShoutOUT Voice-to-SMS Application for iPhone
Promptu Unveils First Voice-to-SMS Application for iPhone
ShoutOUT lets users dictate text messages, check and correct messages, send SMS to intended recipients
Promptu Systems Corporation, today introduced ShoutOUT, the first voice-to-SMS application for iPhone users in the U.S. ShoutOUT lets users dictate their text messages in natural language instead of typing on the iPhone’s touch screen keypad, check the transcribed messages for errors and make corrections if necessary, and then send the SMS on to their intended recipients.
Promptu, based in Menlo Park, CA, creates multimodal talk-and-type mobile phone applications for consumers, carriers, handset providers, and travel and transportation companies.
“ShoutOUT makes sending text messages on an iPhone incredibly fast and easy,” said Chris Shipley, executive producer of DEMO, the premier launch venue for new products, technologies, and companies. “Like a lot of people, I love the iPhone but not its onscreen keyboard. The single-finger hunt-and-peck typing is frustrating and slow. Promptu replaces hunt and peck with a simple, accurate spoken word interface. Thank you, Promptu.”
Without question, text messaging has exploded in the consumer marketplace. More than 2.3 trillion text messages will be sent by next year, according to the Gartner Group. And, with seven U.S. states making it illegal to text while driving – and many more expected to do the same in 2009 – the need for voice recognition SMS is paramount.
“Today it’s voice-to-SMS; tomorrow will be voice to any text application on the phone,” said Giuseppe Staffaroni, Promptu’s CEO. “Tweets to Twitter, email, Facebook status, calendar events, reminders – our technology is a perfect match. And, because it’s server-based, and 100 percent automated – no humans behind the scenes – it is scalable to millions of users.”
ShoutOUT will soon be submitted for approval to the iPhone App Store/iTunes Connect. A non-English version of the product will soon be distributed by a major wireless carrier in Europe.
